The "Dolphin Plus" was custom designed and built for the task of taking people to all of the beautiful sites in the Savannah and surrounding Low Country areas.
She has a shallow draft; necessary because of the areas 8 foot tidal fluctuation; twin turbo diesels in order to get there quickly and reliably; and water jet propulsion to avoid any injury to the marine life we encounter on the way.
The name "Dolphin Plus" has great significance also. Besides encountering Dolphin on every tour, the "Plus" is that the water jet propulsion system allows plenty of opportunity for "jet boat" fun. She can make 90 and 180 degree ("jet boat") turns in an instant and can go from 30 miles an hour to a dead stop in her own length, a safety feature inherent in a jet boat called a "Splash Stop." She can stay in one position like a bug on a pin and do 360 degree spins and, something inherent only to a twin jet craft, has true sideways movement, handy when trying to capture the right picture.
She has bus style padded and upholstered seats for comfort, an onboard restroom, and is capable of unloading passengers from a drop down bow ladder for easy beach access. She has a full array of electronic and Coast Guard Safety Gear including Radar, GPS, VHF Radio, Depth FInder, Cell Phone, Self Releasing Life Raft and Type 1 Life Jackets.
She is Coast Guard inspected and certified for 19 passengers and 2 crew and is operated only by licensed Master Captains.
All in all, she is the most extensively designed one purpose vessel in this area and that purpose is FUN.
